Joseph Pt. 8 - The Story of Judah
In this message, we hear from Pastor Justin on the story of Judah, the older brother of Joseph. Amongst all of Joseph’s brothers, Judah’s story is highlighted the most, and serves as the “story behind the story”. We see Judah make a ton of mistakes, but see him completely transformed before the story is over. Judah’s story lives on after his death, being the tribe selected to lead, and ultimately leading to the birth of Christ. This story shows us that God is a redeeming God, redeeming even the worst of sinners and the worst of mistakes.
Joseph Pt. 7 - The End of Joseph's Life
In this message, we learn how Joseph’s story ends. We see the blessings given to Joseph and his brothers, and see the restored relationship they have even after their father’s death. In this message, Pastor Kevin summarizes the final chapters of Genesis, and then recaps the series by sharing the lesson we can learn from the life of Joseph, including a list of ways that Joseph is a type of Christ, pointing us ahead to Christ.
Joseph Pt. 6 - Provision & Protection
In part 6 of our series on Joseph, we study Genesis chapters 47-48. In these chapters, we see Joseph goes out of his way to care for and provide for his family while the famine is still taking place. Joseph gives them a place to live and land for their livestock. But he also protects them from the the influence of Egypt by giving them separate land. We also see some of the final moments between Joseph and his father Jacob, where Jacob adopts Joseph’s sons as his owns, yet switches the blessing they should receive, giving the younger son the greater blessing. In this message, we’re reminded that Christians are called to be in the world, but not of it. Pastor Kevin closes the message by giving 4 ways we can be in but not of the world.
Joseph Pt. 5 - Joseph Forgives His Brothers
In this message, we study Genesis chapters 45-46, where we see Joseph finally reveal his identity to his brothers. While the brothers respond in shock and fear, Joseph ultimately forgives them. Because he sees that it was God’s plan to bring him to Egypt in order to save his whole family, he doesn’t hold a grudge against his brothers. In the same way, we are called to forgive others whenever we are wronged. To close this message, Pastor Kevin shares with us 6 steps towards forgiving someone.
Joseph Pt. 4 - Joseph Tests His Brothers
In this message, Pastor Kevin teaches Genesis chapters 43-44. In these chapters, we see that Joseph, when meeting his brothers again, tests them to see if they had changed over the years. He wants to see if they are still overcome by jealousy, or if they have repented of their past sins. In this message, we’ll learn that often God will test us to see where we are and how we have grown. His tests are not to punish us, but to help us. God will always first do a work in us, so that he can then do a work through us.
Joseph Pt. 3 - From Prison to Palace
In part 3 of our series on Joseph, Pastor Kevin teaches through Genesis chapters 41-42, which tells the story of Joseph going from a prison in Egypt, all the way to the place of 2nd in command of all Egypt under Pharaoh. Through these scriptures, we see that God is still with Joseph in everything he does, and gives Joseph the ability to interpret dreams. Because of this ability, Joseph is able to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams and provide the wisdom and insight needed to save Egypt and surrounding countries from dying in famine. This puts Joseph in a position where he will face his brothers once again whenever they come to Egypt in need of food. In this message, he see God working out his perfect timing in the life of Joseph. This message also shows us the importance of dealing with past hurt or past sin, so that we do not carry it with us in the present.
Joseph Pt. 2 - Joseph Tempted & Imprisoned
In this message, Pastor Kevin teaches Genesis chapters 39-40, which tells the story of Joseph as a servant in Potiphar’s house, tempted by Potiphar’s wife, then falsely accused and imprisoned. While imprisoned, Joseph helped interpret the dreams of two others in prison, the baker and the cup-bearer. In this section of Joseph’s life, we see that God was with Joseph in everything he did. We also see how Joseph handled temptation, which gives us an example of how to overcome temptation in our own lives.
Joseph Pt. 1 - Joseph Sold by his Brothers
This week we kicked off a new message series on the story of Joseph in Genesis. In this first message, Pastor Kevin Hisey teaches through Genesis chapter 37, which is where we learn about Joseph, the dreams he has from God, and the calling God places on his life. However, his brothers are not so thrilled about it. They begin to hate Joseph and sell him into slavery. We see in this message that what appeared as a setback in Joseph’s life was actually the setup for what God wanted to do in and through him.
