Wise Leadership
The book of Proverbs speaks generously on the topic of leadership. Because it was largely written by King Solomon, he teaches the things he learned about being a wise and godly king. In this message, Pastor Kevin shares with us what Proverbs teaches about leading wisely. Leadership is more than a title, leadership is influence. Therefore, all of us have leadership in one form or another.
True Friendship
In this message, Pastor Kevin shares about the value of true friendship. Proverbs teaches us about the friends the kind of friends we need in our lives, but also the kind of friend we are called to be towards others. In our modern world, true friendship seems to get lost in the sea of acquaintances and social media. But Proverbs shows us what a true friend really is.
Wise & Foolish Words
This message begins with a powerful video from members of our church sharing how others’ words have impacted them, both positively and negatively. This video was first featured last year during our “Power of Words” series. Pastor Kevin goes on to share what proverbs teaches us about how to use words. Foolish words include lies and gossip, which we are called to avoid. Wise words include encouragement, truth, and words spoken at the right time. We are called to use the power of our words to speak life into others.
Greed & Generosity
In this message, Pastor Kevin teaches on what Proverbs has to say about greed & generosity. Greed is always self-centered and never satisfies, whereas generosity leads to goodness and blessing. God has called us to use what he’s given us to make much of him during this life. Kevin closes this message by sharing about the practice and benefits of tithing.
Children & Parenting
In this message, we hear about the relationship between parents & children in Proverbs. Proverbs speaks to both parents and children. As parents, we are instructed to intentionally raise children to know God, discipline them, and set the right example for them. As children, we are instructed to honor our parents well. Pastor Kevin ends this message by showing us 8 practical steps to having a God-centered home.
Conflict & Strife
In this message, Pastor Kevin teaches on the theme of conflict & strife in the book of Proverbs. Proverbs shows us the difference between conflict & strife, and also gives us some practical tools to know how to address it. All of us find ourselves in conflict, whether we caused it or not. Conflict is also an opportunity for us and others to grow. Therefore, we need to be equipped to handle conflict in a biblical way when it comes.
Pride & Humility
This week at Open Door, we heard from special guest Matt Spann, who serves at the Missions Strategist for the Cherokee Strip Baptist Association. Matt continued our Proverbs series, teaching on the theme of pride & humility in Proverbs. He compares & contrasts pride & humility, demonstrating the way pride causes damage in our lives, wheres humility places us in the grace of God.
The Path of Wisdom & The Path of Folly
In this passage, we hear from Pastor Justin Romaine about the 2 paths of life revealed to us in Proverbs. The path of wisdom and the path of folly. Even though the path of folly often looks right or feels right to us, the book of Proverbs teaches us that its end leads to destruction.
Laziness & Work Ethic
In this message, Pastor Kevins teaches on Proverbs’ theme of laziness and work ethic. Proverbs has much to say about the way we work. From Proverbs, we see 5 aspects of a person who is lazy, as well as some instruction about how we are to work in order to reflect God and impact others.
The Plans of Man & Sovereignty of God
In this message, Pastor Kevin teaches from Proverbs chapter 16 about the sovereignty of God, which teaches us that man can plan his way, but it is God who directs his steps. Much like a slow-dance, we are called to wait for God’s leading in our lives, yet we also have a responsibility to move.
Fearing God & Accepting Correction
To kickoff our summer message series in the book of Proverbs, Pastor Kevin teaches on the beginning of wisdom. Proverbs teaches us that the beginning of wisdom is the fear (or awe) of God. In order for us to truly grow in wisdom, we must first recognize that we don’t know everything, and that we need instruction from God and correction from others.
