Sell Everything You Have and Give to the Poor
In this final part of Things Jesus Taught, Pastor Kevin teaches the story of the rich, young ruler from Mark 10. This story calls us to consider our relationship towards money. Money itself is not bad, but the love of money leads to all kinds of evil. Jesus, out of love for us, calls us to give away what we have, allowing us to find our true treasure in him.
Whoever Wants to Be Great Must Become a Servant
In this message, Pastor Justin teaches on Mark 10:35-45. In this passage, we see 2 of Jesus’ disciples desiring to be the greatest by asking to sit on his right and left in his glory. Jesus tells them they don’t know what they are asking. He then enters into a teaching with all of his disciples about what it means to be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. True greatest is becoming a servant. In God’s kingdom, the least is the greatest. As followers of Jesus, we are called to set aside our pride and desire for glory, and become a servant to those around us.
Not Everyone Goes to Heaven
In this passage, Pastor Kevin teaches on one of the scariest passages in scripture. In Matt 7, Jesus says
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
Pastor Kevin explains this warning from Jesus, and then gives examples from scripture of people who were not true followers of Jesus. Some outright rejected Jesus, some professed to know him but did not truly follow him, and others tried to gain favor with God through their good works. But only those with true, genuine faith which results in a personal relationship and obedience to Christ will enter the kingdom of heaven.
Deny Yourself, Take Up Your Cross and Follow Me
This passage is one that all who desire to follow Jesus must wrestle with. In this message, we hear what Jesus commanded of all those who desired to come after him. Pastor Kevin explains what it means to deny yourself, take up your cross and follow Jesus.
Do Not Be Anxious
Pastor Kevin Hisey preaches on Luke 12:22-31, which teaches us how not to be anxious. In a world full of worry and anxiety, Jesus teaches his followers how not to worry, and instead find rest in him.
